It lives inside the printer as part of the cartridge holder housing and acts as a signal pass- through for the cartridge and the main logic board. If it is damaged, you'll have errors related to the cartridge installation. It is NOT easy to replace. There are a total of eight in the printer, one for each color.

Also please note: Epson has modified the design of this part. The contact portion is now a solid piece of copper. (See photo) What you're replacing will likely look more like bands of copper. The two designs are functionally identical. This new design should prove a little tougher to damage.
